Last week, Labour leader Ed Miliband wrote an article for the Globe saying why our readers should vote for his party in Thursday's election.

This week the Prime Minister, David Cameron, has his say...

ON Thursday, the people of Wirral will go to the polls.

The choice is clear: between the Conservatives continuing to build a brighter future, or Labour taking us back to their dark days of higher taxes, borrowing and debt.

Readers might ask: “why is the economy so important?”

The answer’s simple: the things that matter most – the school your children go to, the hospital that looks after you, the job you do, the money in your pocket – all depend on that strong economy.

Look at what has been achieved these past five years.

We’ve cut income tax for over 26 million people.

We’ve increased pensions by £950 a year.

We’ve protected pensioners’ benefits; delivered over 2.2 million apprenticeships; and we’re investing more in roads since the 1970s – and more in railways since the Victorians.

We’ve pledged more than £17 million to sort out potholes, street lighting and bridges in Wirral and signed a Liverpool City Region Growth Deal which will bring thousands of jobs and homes to this area. Not one of these things would have been possible if we hadn’t been turning our economy around.

I’m not saying every problem in Wirral is fixed, but we are going in the right direction, last year becoming the fastest-growing major advanced economy in the world.

In the next five years our mission is clear: to turn that good economic news into a good life for you and your family.

We want to give parents of three and four year olds 30 hours’ free childcare every week.

We want to make it law that no-one on the Minimum Wage working 30 hours a week pays any income tax ever again.

We want to clear the budget deficit and reach full employment – and build a Northern Powerhouse, in which Wirral will play a key part.

That’s the vision – and with fantastic MPs like Esther McVey and John Bell, we can realise it. Only one thing stands in our way: Labour. Last time they were in power, they brought Britain to its knees. This time it would be even worse – they would be wholly reliant on the SNP. Nicola Sturgeon would have to approve every vote.

Alex Salmond even boasted he would write Labour’s Budget. Do you think the two of them care one bit about Wirral?

Do you think the things that matter here, like the completion of the Heron Road bypass, are on their to-do list? Do you think they want to help working families across the United Kingdom?

The answer is no. They don’t even want to be in a United Kingdom.

Those are the two outcomes after the election – and the result is in your hands.

So to Wirral Globe readers, I say this: choose a strong economy; choose a brighter future for your family; stop that toxic Miliband/SNP tie up; and make sure you get out there and vote Conservative on May 7.
