THIS is the vision for a Birkenhead beauty spot to be set amongst the backdrop of Liverpool's waterfront.

Magnificent plans for Woodside are now in the pipeline with developers homing in on the area's redevelopment potential.

The grandiose proposals come under The Woodside Masterplan and will now be on display at the Woodside Hotel to encourage residents to express their views.

It has been developed by Building Design Partnership (BDP) who were asked to produce a plan which gives a once in a lifetime opportunity to achieve a landmark private sector led development, and a quality design and visual impact worthy of its location.

One of the core principles of the plan is to create a distinctive environment around Woodside, which can draw on the waterfront and its unique views.

It is envisaged that this will create an area including high quality restaurants and bars, pavement cafes and other leisure uses to the waterfront.

The development of a quality hotel is a valuable part of the package.

At the heart of the plan is the aim of drawing a wider range of visitors into Birkenhead in the evening, both from the rest of Wirral and the wider region, including Liverpool.

The masterplan also calls for a dedicated identity to be developed for the area, as the term 'Woodside' is not widely known outside of Wirral.

The first phase of works will include the creation of a 'development spine' running from the Woodside Ferry Terminal up to Hamilton Square Station.

The link will not only include a range of new buildings, suitable for mixed use development such as leisure, office and residential, but also be used to create a series of public spaces and an enhanced public realm.

The public consultation will take place in the Hamilton Suite at The Woodside Hotel on March 6, 7 and 8 from 9am.
