A CAMPAIGN urging the public to get out and enjoy Wirral's tourist attractions has been launched today.

Wonders of Wirral was unveiled this morning at Carr Farm Garden Centre in Meols, and aims to promote the best the borough has to offer.

The campaign will advertise the borough through specialist publications and websites as well as across the transport and tourism network.

Its ambition is to build on already "booming" visitor numbers and encourage repeat visits through shining a spotlight on the the peninsula's wide range of attractions.

Colin Simpson, curator of Williamson Art Gallery and Museum and chairman of Wirral Attractions Partnership, said: "Wirral’s day visitor economy is currently worth over £220m each year and it attracts more than 6.3m day visitors, creating more than 2,200 full-time equivalent jobs.

"The Wonders of Wirral-themed marketing campaign builds on this success by promoting our collective offer regionally and nationally for the first time with a view to growing the local economy by attracting even more visitors."

Carr Farm Garden Centre is a member of the partnership and is currently "investing significantly" to grow its business and increase the number of visitors is attracts.

This includes a £3m redevelopment on-site which has allowed them to open the brand-new 300-seat Atrium Restaurant.

The restaurant is open now but is set to be officially launched when the farm celebrates its 75th birthday with a special weekend of events at the end of the month.

Ben Jones, centre manager, said: “The value of working together as a partnership to promote Wirral as an attractive place to visit is obvious and we are delighted to play a part.”

A further campaign called Discover Wirral, marketing the borough as a destination for short break holidays, will follow in the summer.
