WIRRAL band The Mac Bros' dreams of reality TV stardom ended at the weekend when they were beaten in round two of BBC's The Voice.

Ally Macdonald and Callum McMorran became the fifth members of Rita Ora’s team after they wowed the programme's superstar coaches will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones and Ricky Wilson and the audience with a medley featuring Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, Chuck Berry's Johnny B Goode and Kaiser Chiefs' Oh My God during the blind audition on January 31.

They returned to the show for round two on Saturday, but were beaten by fellow competitors the Beat Twins. At stake was the chance to win a recording contract.

Ally, from Wallasey, and Callum, from Bebington, met after leaving school and started off busking together in Chester.

On leaving the show, Callum told the Globe this afternoon: "It was not the result we wanted, but we were fortunate to get as far as we did in the competition, no-one can ever take that away.

"We want to say a big thanks to all on the show for giving us the chance to show the country what we can do.

"We did our best, tried our hardest, but in the end it was not to be.

"We know that Rita had a strong bond with the Beat Twins and I suppose we had a struggle with the song."

Their appearance on The Voice on January 31 prompted a huge response on Twitter, with fans sending in their congratulations.

The boys also played an exclusive gig at Ally's former school, The Mosslands in Wallasey.

On their success since the show was aired, Callum said: "It was, obviously, great experience and has certainly helped increase the numbers turning up at our gigs.

"We'll take this experience and run."

The boys' next gig is at The Wro in West Kirby tonight, Tuesday, March 10, at 9pm.

They are also at the Cavern Club in Liverpool on Sunday, April 12, from 2.30-4.30pm.
