A STUDENT has been injured in an explosion at Liverpool University.
Firefighters were called at 8.48am to the building on Oxford Street in Liverpool.
Three fire appliances were sent to the scene along with the Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service hazardous materials unit.
The alert followed a report of a person being injured on the fourth-floor of the building.
An investigation is underway to establish how the explosion occurred.
Area manager Nick Searle said: "Firefighters were called to the fourth floor of the building fter a small explosion involving a chemical at the site.
"A man at the scene was given first-aid by firefighters.
"Firefighters are liaising with staff on site, and are standingby with dry powder extinguishers and a hose.
"Paramedics were also requested to check the man who was given first-aid.”
