A WIRRAL couple are on a fundraising mission to help disabled and disadvantaged children as they compete to “win their wedding”.

Jemma Simpson, 31, and partner Kate Edwards, 27, are holding charity nights, raffles and bag packing events in a bid to raise as much money as possible for Radio City’s Cash for Kids charity.

The Moreton couple, who have been together for close to 10 years after meeting in a bar, are the only Wirral pair to make it to the final and will take on five other Merseyside couples to raise the most cash and win their wedding with the radio station.

“We have to raise as much as possible for Cash for Kids within two weeks from February 9 to February 22,” said Jemma.

Cash For Kids is the official charity of Radio City and provides a helping hand to disabled and disadvantaged children in Liverpool and the surrounding areas.

All the money is raised locally and spent locally and goes to children and young people under 18 throughout the region with mental, physical or sensory disabilities, behaviour or psychological disorders, living in poverty or situations of deprivation, suffering through distress, abuse or neglect.

Jemma said: “We will be doing various events across Wirral to raise funds – you could see Kate walking around in her wedding dress.

“We have had a great response so far from local bands such as Insanity Beach and Fire who have agreed to let us fundraise at their gigs.”

Local businesses have also got behind the couple, with Manor Cars donating a wedding car package for them to raffle off and Extremely Dance School arranging for students to perform at one of their charity events.

“Kate and I are the only Wirral couple to get through to the final so we are hoping the community will get behind us 100%,” said Jemma.

“We have been together for nine years and it would mean the absolute world to us if we get the support we need to raise as much as possible for Cash For Kids during the two weeks.”

Kate and Jemma – who work for Options For Supported Living – have done their fair share of charity work over the years, raising a massive £9,810 for the Candice Colley Foundation.

Event details will be posted on the couple’s Facebook page here.
