Young people in the Wallasey area are being invited to bid for small grants to help them turn ideas into reality and help the local community.

Wallasey Constituency Committee is investing £2,000 in the "Little Sparks" fund and is looking for groups of young people aged 18 or younger to bid for up to £500 to fund community projects in the area.

The ideas young people come up with will have to seek to address one or more of three priority areas identified by the committee.

Bids should focus on helping people of any age to be healthier - reducing health inequalities, helping young people to achieve more - raising the aspirations of young people, and/or helping to bring communities together - promoting "community cohesion."

Councillor Rob Gregson, chairman of the committee, said: “It is important that we not only listen to our young people’s ideas, but that we also give them the opportunity to make them happen.

"This includes giving them invaluable experience of managing their own project – explaining their idea, costing it, monitoring the project, measuring its success and reporting back.

“These are small, one-off grants but they could make all the difference both to the young people themselves as well as the community.

"We look forward to hearing about some of the ways in which our young people want to improve the Wallasey area.”

The closing date for bids is noon on Wednesday, April 1, and they must have the backing of a sponsor, such as a teacher or youth worker.

The bids will be initially assessed by a panel of young people before a decision is made by the constituency committee.
