A FUNDRAISING night in memory of two young people from Wirral who died in tragic circumstances will take place later this year.

Funds from the event, at Poulton Victoria Social Club in Wallasey, will be split between Charlotte's Brightside youth club in New Brighton, founded in memory of Charlotte Churchill and 'Eva's fund', a trust set up in aid of Robbie Croft's daughter.

Charlotte, from Wallasey, was just 19 when she died in a car accident in April, 2011. Determined to keep her memory alive, mum Angie formed a strong team of supporters and set about starting a charity from scratch.

Years of tireless fundraising led to the opening of Charlotte's Brightside youth centre in February 2013.

Robbie Crofts, 21, a support worker from New Brighton drowned in August 2011, along with girlfriend Hayley Holmes.

An inquest heard the sweethearts had been to the Mathew Street Festival in Liverpool with friends and had decided to pay a late-night visit to the seafront.

It is thought Robbie was not a strong swimmer but it is thought he may have gone into the water to assist Hayley after she got into trouble.

However the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy "will never be known", according to Wirral's coroner at the time, Christopher Johnson.

Charlotte's Brightside is situated in Molyneux Drive, New Brighton and used by children aged 8-16. The centre is open on Monday and nights from 6pm-8pm.

It has a recording studio, internet café, chill-out area and offers a safe and secure environment for over 60 young people throughout the summer holidays and during term time too.

Helping open the centre were Loose Women panellist and former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay and Olympic boxer Natasha Jonas.

Michelle Naylor, who runs Charlotte's Brightside, told the Globe: "I never had the pleasure of meeting Charlotte, but I know from her mum that Brightside sums her up.

"I think she would have been immensely proud of what her mum has done.

“From what I know about Robbie, he was a bubbly, fun character. I'm sure his daughter will come and use the centre when she’s old enough."

The fundraising event at Poulton Victoria Social Club on March 28 starts at 7.30pm. Tickets, £10, are from Michelle Naylor on 07901346646.
