POLICE have confirmed that the victim of a tragic railway death this week was a 16-year-old boy.
The teenager has not been named. His family have been informed of the death.
Emergency services were called to Capenhurst station at 5.44pm on Monday.
Services were suspended between Hooton and Chester and Hooton and Ellesmere Port until 7.40pm.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We were called to Capenhurst railway station shortly before 5.45pm on Monday, January 26, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.
“Cheshire Police and North West Ambulance Service also attended. A 16-year-old boy, from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The boy’s family has been informed.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
This is the second tragic railway death involving a teenager to happen on the Wirral line in recent months.
Fifteen-year-old Jade Kosanlavit died on November 10 last year after she was struck by a train near Port Sunlight station.
Her inquest is due to take place on February 11.
