WIRRAL blood donors are being urged to make a donation this month following a drop in life-saving supplies over the Christmas and New Year period.

The National Blood and transplant service says heavy demand for blood and many people taking extended holidays have seen stock levels fall.

Every day hospitals in England and North Wales we need around 6,100 blood donations to treat patients in urgent need. All blood types are needed, but particularly O Groups.

Blood donor sessions will take place in Wirral on the following dates:

  • Friday, January 16: Civic Centre, Civic Way, Bebington from 2-4pm and 5.30-7.30pm
  • Tuesday, January 20: Village Hotel, Pool Lane, Bromborough from 2-4pm and 5.30-7.30pm
  • Wednesday, January 21: TA Centre, Chetwynd, Wexford Road, Prenton from 2-4pm and 5.30-7.30pm
  • Monday, January 26: Methodist Church Hall, 192 Greasby Road, GREASBY from 2-4pm and 5.30- 7.30pm
  • Wednesday, January 28: The Victory Hall, Salacre Lane, Upton from 1.30-3.30pm and 5-7pm.

Nadine Eaton, head of national campaigns for the Blood ser, said “Blood stocks have fallen over the festive period and it’s vital that we increase our stocks now, so we can continue to meet the needs of patients. Please make an appointment today and help ensure that patients get the transfusions they need over the coming weeks."

If you are able to give blood, please make an appointment to donate by calling 0300 123 23 23.
