BUSINESSES across the borough gave the gift of Christmas when they teamed up help Wirral Foodbank.

Pensby-based company Laird Experts joined forces with Whitfield Buildings, Heswall and Underground Training Station, Hoylake, to support the foodbank as much as they could.

The companies gathered up donations from staff members, family, friends and other local businesses such as Roof Management Limited, Hoylake and Blue Moon Framing and Gallery, Heswall.

Representatives from the firms went and dropped of 155 kg worth of food at the foodbank in Dock Road, Birkenhead today to make sure the donations could be processed in time to reach the families in need before Christmas.

Nik Ellis, managing director at Laird said: "Charity starts at home and we feel passionately about supporting our local community and those that need help.

"However, the people that deserve a huge round of applause are the volunteers driving this great cause.

"Surrounded by smiles and laughter the people volunteering create a warm and inviting atmosphere even during the chaos over Christmas.

"With people queuing to drop off food donations they certainly have their work cut out for them but were enjoying every minute none the less.

"Donations are taken all year around and volunteers are greatly appreciated to help on site throughout the year.

"Well done to every one of the businesses and individuals that have made the effort to bring donations in and of course the volunteers, it really is going to help those in need this Christmas."

The community fund raising will not be stopping there. Laird & Whitfield are keen to join together throughout the year with other businesses and build awareness for local charities collectively.
