A GROUP of kind-hearted Moreton neighbours switched on their Christmas lights for the 11th time in aid of Claire House at the weekend.

For the last ten years residents in Amberley Close have worked together to create a winter wonderland to raise cash for the hospice.

The lights were switched on by Moreton West & Saughall Massie councillors Steve Williams and Chris Blakeley during an event on Sunday night, watched by over 100 people.

They wanted to help towards giving the children at the Clatterbridge-based hospice a Christmas to remember.

Before the lights were turned on, there was entertainment from singer Val Hollywood.

The tradition, which has so far raised more than £10,000, was started by Karen and Frank Williams and next-door neighbours Peter and Sandra George.

They have been switching the lights on for years, but it's only in the last ten years that they have done so for Claire House.

More than 300 people watched last year's switch-on, raising £1,300 and the hope is to beat that figure this time.

Karen told the Globe: "It all started because each morning I'd come out after the lights had been switched on and there'd be little money bags on the step. So I thought 'well someone might as well make money out of this, so why not do it for Claire House.

"Last year was our best ever year, we raised over £1300; that was just people coming along and putting £1, or whatever they could afford, into the collection box.

"We don't ask people to put money in, just to come and enjoy the lights display. I'm just quite happy to see the kids' faces.

"It all goes to Claire House. This year you can donate and leave a message for Fathere Christmas.

"Put the letter in the box. Remember to include your child's name and address on the letter and they'll get a letter from Santa.

"Just keep going and help us beat last year's fundraising total."
