IT's time to spread some Global warming with this year's Wirral Golden Globes awards.

Our community awards highlight the tremendous work that goes on in the borough every day of the week.

And it's all being done by an army of unsung heroes.

Wirral's Golden Globes for once turn a spotlight on these local heroes and honour them for their selfless efforts in helping others less fortunate.

This year's nominations have been a magnificent reflection of the Wirral people's willingness to lend a hand.

From youngsters caring for sick siblings, elderly people tidying up their local area and good neighbours who never fail to keep an eye out for those in their street who may need a helping hand.

The awards will be presented by our supporting sponsors, assisted by a galaxy of Merseyside stars.

Here's what some of our celebrities said:

Suzanne Collins, actress: "I always look forward to the annual Wirral Globe awards. It is something very special and unique for Wirral.

"Each year I am amazed and touched when I hear of the sacrifices made by so many people to make life better for others. It is great that we can sing the praise of unsung heroes.

"Those who are nominated in each and every category are all winners to me."

Charlie Landsborough, international singing star: "Being a Birkenhead lad I am delighted to be involved in these wonderful Wirral awards.

"I am only presenting an award that is the easy part, I applaud every individual, volunteer group who do all the hard work.

"Every nominee has a story to tell. They always strike a chord with me.

"I travel over the world on my tours, but I always look forward to coming home and being there for this great ceremony at the New Brighton Pavilion.

Dean Sullivan, actor: "It is a privilege to be there on the night.

Each year I sit and hear the work of some brilliant individuals and groups working for the good of the community. Many have overcome adversity to make a difference to the people around them.

"There are some real heart-warming stories on the night and I enjoy meeting and talking to all those who are thought of so highly be their friends, relations and colleagues.

"The Golden Globes is a real celebration of Wirral people who do wonderful things recognised by the newspaper and in the process, the greater community."

Nasher, singer-songwriter from Frankie goes to Hollywood: "There are plenty of awards given to celebrities, I know I have been to many, but this is one that is about very real, deserving people.

"The whole event brings home to me the local, tireless heroes out there who are respected by the people around them.

"They help change things for others. They aren't asked to - they just do it. And that is why I am always happy to support these awards. They hit home every time."

Readers were invited to nominate that special person they felt were worthy of praise.

The recipients will be revealed during a glittering ceremony at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton on Thursday, November 27.
