A WIRRAL couple who lost their unborn daughter are hoping to raise much-needed funds for the organisation providing vital support for those in similar situations when they hold their final charity event of the year this month.

Sarah and Lee Walker, from Noctorum, were delighted when they fell pregnant with their second child in 2007 and could not wait to give their son Joshua a little sister.

But just four days before 35-year-old Sarah was due to give birth to Isabelle, she was given the devastating news that she had sadly passed away. No cause or reason was ever found.

Since then, the couple, who are also parents to four-year-old Lilly, have dedicated their lives to raising money for charities aimed at helping babies and families in situations not unlike their own.

In 2008, the pair asked guests to their wedding to make donations to Tommys instead of wedding gifts in memory of Isabelle and have since taken part in a number of sponsored runs to raise funds.

Sarah said: “We didn’t know what else to do – it’s our way of keeping Isabelle’s memory alive.

“Fundraising has given me something to focus on and I feel like I am giving Isabelle the time she deserves by doing this.”

In 2013, a friend introduced Sarah to the charity Saying Goodbye, part of the Mariposa Trust who support families such as her own who have suffered the tragic loss of a child.

She said: “It felt like what I had been looking for – a fantastic support charity for families like us and a chance to be more involved with what they do.”

After agreeing to become a fundraising and events co-ordinator for the charity, Sarah and Lee began their fundraising journey, taking part in Tough Mudder, Bupa Children’s Run, Liverpool Santa Dash – raising more than £3,500 in sponsorship.

Now, the couple are hoping to raise even more cash for the worthwhile cause by holding their very own Mariposa Snowball charity event in Liverpool.

Sarah said: “The event marks the ends of our first year of fundraising for Saying Goodbye.”

The Snowball takes place at the Hard Days Night Hotel in Liverpool on Friday, November 21.

Tickets cost £65 per person or £500 for a table of 10.

Guests will be treated to a three course meal, live music, a charity auction and raffle.
