A SECOND public meeting will be held in Greasby tonight as part of a consultation process over the proposed fire station merger in the village.

It will take place at Greasby Methodist Church Hall in Greasby Road at 7pm.

Dan Stephens, Chief Fire Officer for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service will present proposals for the merger of West Kirby and Upton Fire stations at Greasby followed by an opportunity for the public to ask questions.

It follows a meeting in Greasby last Monday, which was oversubscribed. The second meeting has been arranged for those people who couldn’t attend the first one.

More than 500 concerned householders turned up at Greasby Methodist Church Hall to have their say over the plans, so many that the venue could not cope with the numbers and 300 had to wait outside.

Merseyside fire authority is proposing to close West Kirby and Upton stations and build a new base serving both areas at Frankby Road, Greasby.

There were boos and cries of "shame" as it was revealed the new station would be built on the site of the village's library, which would be demolished and a smaller service built into the new complex.

It was also revealed the new building would feature a four-storey training tower.

The alternative is the outright closure of West Kirby fire station.

Anyone wishing to attend is asked to register if possible via Consultation2@merseyfire.gov.uk or by phoning 0151 296 4236 so the Fire and Rescue Service has an idea of how many people to expect.

Public consultation meetings also took place at Woodchurch Leisure Centre and Hoylake Community Centre.
