IT WAS with great interest that I read your article in last week’s Globe and in particular the reference to West Kirby car park being for the use of shoppers.
The car park is predominately used by users of the sports facilities, the library or the group practices.
In more recent times, the more able-bodied have sought other areas to park free of charge and the users of the car park therefore tend to be mothers with young children, the elderly or the less able bodied.
It is the only car park that charges users of Wirral’s leisure centres for parking. Conway Park gives a rebate on parking charges to its users.
The huge increase in the parking charge can therefore only be considered as a local tax on the elderly, the infirm, mothers with young children and those wishing to improve their fitness.
