A pensioner was discovered with hundreds of extreme porn images on his computer, a court has heard.

Patrick Fitzpatrick, 71, was reported to police by a concerned neighbour, who has children, who had seen him behaving indecently in the window of his house.

When officers went to his address, Fitzpatrick answered the door naked from the waist down, claiming he had no trousers on as he had just been to the toilet.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that when officers entered his home at Shakespeare Road, Wallasey, they noticed indecent pictures of women adorning the walls.

His computer was seized and 233 extreme pornographic images recovered mostly of acts of bestiality and people hanging from hooks through their bodies.

Fitzpatrick admitted possessing the images of extreme porn in 2012 but denied offences involving indecent images of children, and after the prosecution offered no evidence on those charges, not guilty verdicts were recorded.

Fitzpatrick has already been sentenced for exposure by Wirral Magistrates Court where he was made the subject of a supervision order.

Dan Travers, defending, said, “He fully accepts that he did look at the material although the probation officer may be sceptical as to his motives.

“He would say that he had a morbid curiosity. He hadn’t appreciated that this type of material was illegal.

"He hasn’t viewed any such images for two years and has no intention of doing so.”

He added that since Fitzpatrick’s arrest, he has kept his curtains closed.

Imposing a suspended prison sentence Judge David Aubrey, QC, said: “This court has come to the conclusion that bearing in mind your plea of guilty, your age and the delay between the date of the offences and the date of sentence, and that you have already completed successfully a supervision requirement of a community order, to which the court has made reference, the public interest is best served by suspending what would otherwise be the appropriate sentence.

“Bearing in mind the nature of the material and that material that you were viewing was revolting in the extreme, the sentence will be ten months' imprisonment suspended for a period of two years.”
