RESIDENTS in Birkenhead North suffered problems with water pressure on Thursday night after chldren turned on fire hydrants.
United Utilities engineers were called to Beaufort Road in Birkenhead on Thursday night after reports water was spouting 40-feet into the air.
The firm had tweeted earlier in the evening to say it was investigating a loss of water pressure to many customers.
On arrival engineers saw children turning the fire hydrants on.
A spokesman told the Globe: "As fast as we were turning the hydrants off, they were turning them back on.
"This sort of behaviour is anti-social and can impact on local residents, causing water pressure problems.
"We can only apologise to our customers for any inconvenience this incident caused."
Globe reader Rob Taylor tweeted this picture of the "fountain" in full flow.
