A SHIPPING company that specialises in making high-speed interceptor patrol boats is planning to set up operations at Wirral docklands – creating around 30 jobs.

Alucatz Catamarans have taken over 15,000sq ft at Britannia Business Centre on East Float Dock in Birkenhead to open a new shipyard and design house.

The venture will offer employment to 30 skilled workers ranging from engineers and welders to electricians, carpenters, plumbers and general labourers.

The company also intends to take on ten new apprentices in collaboration with Wirral Metropolitan College.

Alucatz Catamarans managing director Andrew Reyland said: “We are specialists in ground-breaking technology, making us world leaders in our field.

"We are delighted to have moved to Britannia House; the location and property serves our business needs perfectly.

"As orders grow due to the demand for this new technology so will our workforce. We look forward to double our workforce within 18 months."

The new shipyard will be located within the Wirral Industrial Portfolio of Peel Land and Property.

Asset manager Liza Marco said: "We are pleased that Alucatz Catamarans have seen the benefits of growing their business in Birkenhead and have chosen to lease a unit at Britannia House for this purpose."
