A Wirral primary school is one of only 12 in the country to be recognised for its outstanding commitment to environmental issues.

Heswall Primary has been named an “Eco School Ambassador” - an honour it will hold for the next two years in acknowledgment of its unstinting dedication to the ecology cause.

The Eco-Schools website says Heswall Primary has “demonstrated exceptional levels of pupil leadership and whole school support and sustainability issues have been embedded into the school’s curriculum.”

Headteacher John Roberts said: “We are very proud of our achievements to date but it has never been about winning awards.

“Our long-term vision has been to develop sustainable practices and for our pupils, parents and staff to consider the impact that their actions have on the environment.

“Our pupils take great pride in their school environment and enjoy outdoor activity sessions.

"We look forward to supporting other schools in the Northwest region with their own eco-schools projects over the next two years.”

Lynn Struve, Wirral’s eco-schools officer, said: "It is fantastic to have such an inspirational school in Wirral that can showcase its eco work to other schools across the Northwest.”
