A DOGWALKER was rescued by firefighters after she became trapped in mud near New Brighton promenade.

Firefighters spotted the woman in difficulty near Tower Promenade on Sunday afternoon.

They used salvage sheets along with a nine-metre ladder  to safely access the area and rescue her.

Wallasey fire station watch manager Ben Flint, who attended the incident, said: "When we arrived the woman had sunk into the mud up to about knee-level.

"The tide was still on its way out however, this could have been a very different situation.

"We advise people to watch where they are walking on shorelines and beaches and to be aware of muddy areas, particularly those which may be historic, or possible locations where quicksand may be."

The woman was assessed by paramedics at the scene and taken to Arrowe Park Hospital.
