Wirral Globe: Jewellery taken in Bromborough distraction burglary Jewellery taken in Bromborough distraction burglary

CASH and jewellery of sentimental value was taken in what has been described by police as a “distraction burglary” in Bromborough.

Officers were called to a house on Bromborough Road at around 7.20pm on Saturday, January 11, after a couple reported they had been victims of a distraction burglary.

Police have described how the homeowner answered the door to a man who wanted to speak to the homeowner’s wife and when she came to the door, the man quickly left.

The occupants discovered that during this time, the back door to the house had been forced open and a quantity of money and a number of items of jewellery had been stolen.

Detectives attended and carried out door-to-door enquiries, spoke to witnesses and are currently checking CCTV from the area.

The stolen items are described as a pendant in the shape of the Koran attached to a gold chain with Arabic writing on it, a gold ring with a single ruby, a gold charm bracelet with more than 20 charms attached to it, and a gold pendant with Arabic writing on it.

Detective Inspector Rachel Wilson said: “A number of very personal items have been stolen from this couple and they are of great sentimental value to them.

”I would urge anyone in the area who might have seen a group of people acting suspiciously to contact police. If anyone does come across the stolen items, some of which are very distinctive, please contact us.”

The offender who spoke to the couple at the front door is described as a white male in his late 20s, about 5ft 11in and of slim build.

He was wearing a black baseball cap with a blue rim.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
