I WOULD like to comment on the article Jobseekers figures fall again in Wirral which appeared in December 24 edition of Wirral Globe.

It appears to me government figures are misleading and not to be trusted. Let me tell you my story.

I am 62 years old and was on incapacity benefit due to worn discs in my spine. Last year I was re-assessed and declared fit to work. This re-assessment was nonsense.

I appealed but lost and was told I needed to "sign on" for work.

I went to Birkenhead Jobcentre to sign on for Jobseekers' Allowance and was told "sorry you are not well enough to work and we cannot find you work. You do not meet the criteria required for Jobseekers' Allowance."

I have not received a penny in benefits since September.

Perhaps the employment minister, Esther McVey, would like to comment on this?
