A PETITION to save a special needs school from closure has attracted the backing of more than 3,000 people.
Wirral Council dropped a bombshell on the the Lyndale School last week by saying it was “minded” to begin closure procedures.
Over the years, Globe readers have raised more than £80,000 to help provide a sensory garden and other features at the Estham-based school.
A petition started by John Healing – whose 11-year-old daughter attends Lyndale – calls on the council to rethink their decision.
At present, it has been signed by 3,098 people.
Councillor Tom Harney, chair of governors at Lyndale, told the Globe the school has been discussing the future of the school for more than eight years.
He said: “The problem throughout has been that our school has wanted to talk about the children, while the council officers have wanted to talk about administrative convenience.
“It is Christmas time, and this would be the best Christmas present they could give to children and families.”
Petition creator, Mr Healing, added: “The council underestimates the opposition from not only parents but from the wider community.”
