A driver was attacked by a man armed with what is believed to be an axe in Birkenhead.
The incident took place on Wednesday, December 4, when patrols were called to Gorsefield Road just after midnight.
A man armed with what is believed to be an axe damaged windows of a van and assaulted the driver.
The attacker, accompanied by another man, then drove off in a white VW Caddy or similar vehicle in the direction of Oakdene Road.
The victim was taken to hospital where he is still being treated for injuries.
An investigation is underway and detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.
