THE owners of a Wirral archery shop have had a boost after former television 'Dragon' Theo Paphitis re-tweeted a message about the business.

Jason Powell, director of The Longbow Shop in Price Street, Birkenhead, tweeted the multi-millionaire about the firm during 'Small Business Sunday' - which gives firms the chance to tell others about their work.

Theo re-tweeted the message to his 390,000 followers. It led to an increase in orders.

The business was also one of six recipients of the weekly Small Business Sunday award.

Jason told the Globe: "We've been in business for several years, moving to Birkenhead two years ago and expanded the operation in June this year.

"It's great to have this level of support and recognition from Theo, because it’s a tough business world out there at the moment.

"With Theo letting people know about our hard work, it’s helped spread the word about what we do to all his followers."

Co-director Graham Higgs, who sold his home in the South of England to move to Wirral to help the business, said: "We have a steady flow of regular clients from as far as Wales and Australia, but since the message was tweeted, we've certainly seen the interest grow.

"The interest is phenomenal, but it’s really quite humbling.

"We've also had a Canadian lady and her husband, who are archaelogists and keen archers, and we're over in Liverpool for a conference, but took time out to come and see us."

The company also offers courses for people interested in taking up the sport.

There is a skill to picking up a bow, loading it with an 'arrow' and aiming it a target, safety is paramount, as Graham explained.

"Although it's a hobby and a sport, it's a dangerous one in the wrong hands. So, our advice is to get yourself onto a beginnners' course.

"We won't knowingly sell bows to people who haven’t done a beginners’ course.

"So, when we expanded we got a coach in to help people learn the skills. It's accredited by Archery GB.“

Anyone looking for a re-tweet should tweet Theo about their business on Sunday between 5pm and 7.30pm and include the hashtag #SBS.
