A LITTLE boy was left devastated when he woke up on his birthday to discover thieves had stolen his dream gift.

Five-year-old Joey Oakley, from Wallasey, had filled his piggy bank to the brim with birthday, Christmas and pocket money so he could buy an electric trials bike worth more than £1100.

His parents, Kerean and Brian, decided to make up the difference as a birthday treat after the youngster saved £800 by himself and the family were looking forward to taking it for a test ride on the day.

However mum-of-three Kerean was shocked to find the black ‘Ofet’ bike had vanished from their shed on Sunday morning and is desperate for her little boy to be reunited with it.

She told the Globe: “Joey had wanted a bike like this for a long time so he made sure that he put away any money he got for his birthday or Christmas and saved up all his pocket money as well. It may seem unusual for a five-year-old to want this kind of thing but he’s been riding a bike since he was just two and he looks up to his dad who also used to have a quad bike.

“We decided to put in the extra that he needed for his birthday and had it on charge overnight on Saturday in our shed. I didn’t go to bed until about 2am but when we got up at 8am it had gone – we were all in bits and couldn’t believe it had been stolen.

“Joey was absolutely gutted and went into school crying the following day.”

Following the burglary, Kerean says she is now worried a similar incident will happen again and is calling on the local community to look out for the bike.

She said she wants the culprits to know the upset they have caused her little boy.

Kerean, 32, added: “I think that if it had been something of ours stolen then it would have affected us so much but the fact that they stole from a five-year-old who saved the money himself is just disgusting.

“We’re not expecting to get the bike back and even if we did then we know it wouldn’t be in any condition to actually use but these people need to be dealt with and taught that they can’t do this.

“My partner and I are too scared to sleep at the moment and every single noise is making us jump at night, it’s awful to think that they may come back.”
