TEENAGE girls combined an evening of culture and pampering when local hairstylists and nail technicians attended to their whims at Bromborough Library.

On a more serious note at the "Lipstick Library" successful teenage author Luisa Plaja was invited to promote her new book Diary of a Mall Girl.

Twenty young ladies took part, taking away signed copies of the book. Prizes of vouchers for facials and free make up samples were also distributed.

Cllr Chris Meaden, Wirral council cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure said: "Specialist events like these are important because they can attract a different kind of crowd into our libraries.

"Teen fiction is such a huge industry these days, with so many authors tailoring their works to suit the different lifestyles and viewpoints of their target audience that our libraries are able to run events like this to tap into that audience. It's also nice to get a pampering once in a while!"

Local businesses The Beau-Tea Rooms, Red, White and Beauty, Matalan and Caroline & Co provided their services and competition prizes to support the event.

The young ladies also sampled some 'mocktails', with non-alcoholic versions of classics like the Pina Colada, Cosmopolitan, Mojito and Strawberry Daiquiri.
