TWO Wirral men were among those arrested following a major incident in Liverpool yesterday.
A 53-year-old man from Prenton and a 41-year-old from Birkenhead were held on suspicion of possession of a firearm and assault in the city centre.
Police were called to Water Street at around 1.15pm following reports of a group of men having an altercation.
During the activity, it believed a gun was pulled by one of the men but was not fired. However one of them suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Two men then left the scene by car which was later found outside the Hilton Hotel on Sir Thomas Steers Way.
Armed police cordoned off the hotel believing one of the men was inside, but the restrictions were lifted at around 3.10pm.
A gun was also found in the River Mersey by the North West Region Underwater Search Team and has now been taken away for examination.
The arrested men, including a 30-year-old from Thornton, were taken to police stations to be questioned by detectives.
