EXCLUSIVE: Wirral Egg run cancelled AGAIN
Wirral's world-famous Egg Run has been cancelled for the SECOND time.
The 2013 Run was thought to have been saved when sponsors stepped in with a cash donation after it had been called off in December due to lack of funding.
United Utilities came forward with a £20,000 sponsorship package and the Run looked set to go ahead as planned.
But organisers today told the Globe that despite the water company's financial support, sufficient funding cannot be guaranteed from other sponsors to meet the total cost of running the event safely and professionally.
Also, the usual “landing zone” for thousands of motorbikes at Clatterbridge Hospital is not available due to construction work due to take place at the site.
The Trustees and members of the Wirral Egg Run Committee say they "fully understand and support" hospital bosses' decision to go ahead with upgrading their site and accept that the improvements must take priority over the event.
A spokesman said: "We have discussed other options for different versions of the run but with only seven weeks to plan such a major change, it is simply not feasible.
"We would strongly ask our fantastic supporters to please act responsibly and not turn up on March 17.
"We would also ask that people do not take eggs to Clatterbridge Hospital on the day as this would cause a major inconvenience to what is, after all, a hospital."
The spokesman continued: "Importantly however we would also like to stress that this is very much merely a hiatus for a much-loved event.
"Much work is now in progress to ensure the April 6, 2014, Wirral Egg Run returns, bigger and better, and we hope we can rely on everyone’s support to make next year a great success."
The Run has grown in popularity to a massive degree since its launch in 1981 and around 12,000 bikers attended last year's event.
Further information will be available on the website www.wirraleggrun.co.uk and also Facebook and Twitter.

Who you going to complain to this time?? The police?? I'd like to see you try when all the bikes that take part are taxed, MOT'd and legal!!

What is the logic behind organizing something for a charity that costs more than it raises!
UU could have just donated HALF of what they were going to sponsor and the charity would still have been a winner.

Looks like the boss of the bikers couldn't organise a heavy drinking session in a brewery

In regards to the run, people will turn up and do it, you will still have the roads full of bikes so the only difference is no landing site at Clatterbridge. But if your just a sad lonely person just after a reaction, I'm glad to be of service, that's what bikers do, we help people :)
EXCELLENT NEWS.

Lord Knows, living on the Wirral is stultifying enough without depriving us of one good news story which might keep drugs, crime, dog dirt, parking fines and council corruption off the front pages.

The trouble is now it is even more likely that most of us will do the run anyway. Everyone has arranged their day around a rideout so will do it anyway. No need to ride into Clatterbridge we can just ride past.
Its a great spectacle that brings a lot of attention and money to the area.
My car and Trike are tax insured and MOT'd so the Trike will be on the road on the 17th somewhere.

The Egg Run was doomed when it went from being donations of Egg's and Toys, to being more about the money!

Specifically put "Clatterbridge" into the search facility on the planning applications section.
Apart from a couple of alterations to some windows - applied for last year - and a ward extension applied for in 2011, there is no notification of or application for any construction work, of the scale that might disrupt something like the Egg Run, whatsoever.
So - can Clatterbridge Hospital please tell us what this construction work is?
And while they're at it - can they tell us if this work will be taking place on Sunday, March 17? Because I can't remember the last time I saw construction work taking place on a Sunday!
Now, what's that smell in the air.....?
