A NEW online television station dedicated to Wirral went live last week.
Wirral TV is a social enterprise formed from the partnership of five local Community Trusts - Beechwood, Lairdside, Lauries, Leasowe and North Birkenhead.
The online television station has been launched to serve the information needs of all areas of Wirral and to provide media opportunities for long term unemployed, volunteers and individuals seeking hands on work experience in the development of short films.
Mike Power, project co-Ordinator, said: "Currently we are running a mentor programme with 15 long term unemployed individuals who are receiving hands on camera, audio and editing experience from a team who make programmes for Granada.
"This is a great opportunity which wouldn't otherwise be available".
Wirral South MP Ben Chapman, who attended the launch at the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead, said: "I am delighted to support this excellent venture which will give both a voice to the people of Wirral and opportunities to those seeking work in the media industry."
