I WAS saddened to read the negative views expressed about the Open Golf in Hoylake.
Very few golf courses in the UK have the privilege of hosting the tournament and it comes to Royal Liverpool broadly every eight years (it was previously held there in 2014 and 2006).
I feel so lucky to have lived in Hoylake during three tournaments and absolutely love how vibrant the town is when it's on.
Obviously, there will be some disruption when hosting an event of this stature - my road was made one way and turned into a drop off / pick up zone for taxis - but I still want it back.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for 2030, which would be 100 years from when Bobby Jones won his third Open Title there.
As for ruining the course as one gentleman claimed, it isn’t true.
Sure, where the crowd walked became muddy in places but a member of the club told me those areas would normally be rough and will recover.
The fairways and greens are as good as ever.
