ON Sunday, November 28, I noticed that one of the hatches on Bidston Windmill was open.
I guess it had been blown open during the gales of the Friday night.
I was concerned that, left unattended, it would eventually bang itself to pieces.
I phoned the council's ranger service and spoke to a Neil Garrett (on a Sunday). He told me that someone would investigate on the Monday.
The next morning, I got a phone call from a John Chesters, based in Flaybrick. He told me that the window would be seen to that afternoon.
By 2pm it had been re-secured.
In normal times this would have been good service but, in light of other storm damage, it was truly exceptional.
My thanks to the people involved.
Peter Vincent, Oxton
