LOVELY story in last week’s Globe about the 60th wedding anniversary of Patricia and Dennis Pratt.

They met and worked at The Ritz Cinema Birkenhead.

Reading their story about working there and the famous names they met Billy Fury, Adam Faith, The John Barry Seven this really was the Show Place of the North.

This was all down to the famous manger Mr Bill Boht who staged all these fantastic shows, as well as the main film you would often get a stage show.

I was a projectionist at the old Classic Cinema in Conway Street. Dennis was a Projectionist at the Ritz and Patricia was an Usherette so this was how they met and 60 years on celebrating!

So sad that the Ritz closed for good as a Top Rank Bingo Club, I was main stage caller there and closed the Ritz for the final time on November 1997. It was demolished a short time after.

I often talk about it in my late night slot every Wednesday evening 10pm-1am on Linda McDermott’s late show BBC Radio Merseyside talking movies.
