Lottie Dod (1871 – 1960) was best known as a tennis player though she excelled in many other sports, including golf, hockey and archery.
TWO weeks ago, Globe readers were told of the blue plaque being erected in honour of Lottie Dod of Bebington, five times Wimbledon tennis ladies singles champion.
A biography of her states that at the age of 11, she joined “the swanky Rock Ferry tennis club”
My question is, where precisely was this club and do any photographs exist?
It must have been operating around 1890 but when did it close?
My best guess is that it was somewhere on Highfield South off Rock Lane in Rock Ferry.
Can any history buffs out there enlighten us?
