WIRRAL Council should be congratulated for not closing the Williamson Art Gallery and Birkenhead Priory.

They could help both places by making it easier for visitors to find, firstly they need a tourist information centre it give visitors exact directions to the Williamson, secondly, better road signage down the A41.

Having volunteered for several years (along with other people) people say they have passed many times or live local and did not know the Priory was there.

Now surrounded by an industrial area the Priory was built in 1150 and took around two hundred to complete, 1330 given a Royal Charter to operate the ferry service across the Mersey, hardly mentioned today, modern fact is the Nation Cycling network goes right past as well.

People who visit leave glowing comments, the Priory still has a working Chapel, many events around the year.

Please WBC, lets make sure visitors are aware of our gems.
