I am looking for other memories as I was only 10 when the war finished in Europe.
My memories are a bit confused but I think we primary school children had a cinema visit to see Gullivers Travels and Mr Hoppity goes to town. Can anyone else confirm this?
Also there was an illuminated bus that went round the town, again is that a fact? I also think that there was a bonfire on one of the slopeways down to the river.
After VJ day we went to see Henry V. I do not think we had any fireworks as none were made during the war. As I lived on Wallasey Village we could not have a street party.
I remember being taken to Liverpool to see Chinatown decorated up after VJ day we went to a service of thanksgiving in the Cathedral. I lived in Wallasey from birth until we were bombed out of our house in Poulton.
I was evacuated o a very rural spot in Shropshire for three years when I returned to Wallasey Village, I went to St George’s school and then the High School.
Since marriage I have moved to Hereford but still visit the Wirral and have affection for Wallasey and the area, Irene Lloyd, by email
Editor’s note - if you can help, send your details to craig.manning@nqnw.co.uk and we will forward them to Irene
