AS a cynical pensioner with time on his hands I decided to investigate the rash of cycle lanes narrowing our already-congested main roads.
I parked up just off New Chester road in New Ferry on Monday October 5 and counted the cyclists in the Birkenhead bound lane from 7.45am to 9am.
There were just three, two adults and one teenager.
I carried out the same exercise on the other side of the road from 4.45-6pm.
This time there only two adults.
I suspect that if we have a bad winter these intrepid cyclists may go back to the bus.
As an aside, the new layout of traffic and pedestrian lights in New Ferry must rank up there with St James’s church and Arrowe Park roundabout for sheer pencil-pushing incompetency.
