THE Royal British Legion has issued instructions that nationally there are to be no parades this coming Remembrance Day in view of the COVID 19 restrictions, and that RBL standard bearers will not be available for local commemorative events.

However, the Heswall Branch of the RBL has decided to hold a socially distanced Service of Remembrance, presided over by the Rev Martin Cannon, parish priest at St Peter’s Church, Heswall, at midday in the Garden of Remembrance at the Branch for ex-service veterans.

A bugler will be in attendance for the playing of the Last Post and Reveille.

The exhortation will be delivered as usual.

Wreaths may still be laid at the War Memorial on The Mount, Heswall, but there will be no formal event at this location this year.

There will be time allocated during the service for wreaths to be laid at the Garden of Remembrance.

The Branch Chairman and his committee sincerely hope that, despite the current difficulties, the usual strong turn out of veterans can be expected.
