I FULLY agree with Ade Powell (Wirral Globe letters, September 9) re: the council's proposed idea for a strategic cycle route from North Wallasey to Birkenhead town centre.

May I suggest that they stop wasting time and money on such idiotic pointless vanity exercises and instead address as a matter of urgency something much more straightforward which they can surely achieve within a fraction of the cost of all those endless consultations.

I am referring to the bend on Liscard Road in Egremont by the old Kings Head Hotel.

The road has been cross hatched along the middle, thus narrowing it to one lane each way at this bend just before the pedestrian crossing.

And yet they still allow cars to park along both sides of this band, thus creating a hazardous bottleneck for cars that still speed and overtake at this very location.

This means cyclists are putting their lives at risk and many choose to use the pavement instead to avoid the possibility of cars colliding with them.

Why has the council not seen fit to extend the zig zag lines or double yellow lines along this bend to discourage cars from parking along here?

Is it so short-sighted that it cannot see the obvious danger this poses to road users?

Our residents group committee members have raised this with local councillors repeatedly over the past couple of years but nothing ever seems to have been done about this, despite all parties acknowledging that this is a potential accident black spot.

Currently, Liscard Road is being resurfaced so surely this is an ideal opportunity to kill two birds with one stone and get the extended double yellow or zig zag line markings put in place at this particular location.

Does this council's highways department ever practice common sense?
