ONE more unfortunate consequence of the Covid crisis is the increase in dog fouling of Wirral’s pavements due to the massive increase in both dogs and their walkers since Covid limited people's movements in the 13 weeks of hard lockdown to one dog walk or one exercise outing a day.
The council seems reluctant to act properly to stop irresponsible owners, hiding behind the old mantra of 'Tory cuts'.
In addition, there are no votes in clamping down on dog fouling, it would seem, to judge by the inaction of both major local political parties on this issue .
Historically, the best proposal was put forward by the Liberal Democrats on Wirral Council some years ago.
This was simply "Poop and Scoop - or pay the £1,000 fine!"
So I urge all dog owners and paid walkers to take their dog’s deposits home, and bin it!
I ask the council to act on Health & Safety grounds over this.
However, the council often ignore enforcing Health & Safety when it suits them, in my opinion.
