I'M a member of the New Brighteners, a volunteer environmental and beach cleaning group.

Whilst out cleaning rubbish from the Marine Lake one morning I removed four tangled crab lines that had been abandoned dangling into the lake from the railings.

This particular crab line was especially annoying having been left next to a sign that has been put up depicting injured ducks and sea birds caused by abandoned crab lines.

The act of leaving the crab line there was a sort of "well we don’t really care about wildlife, we’ll leave our rubbish where we like" sort of attitude.

This is a regular occurrence during the summer months for which there is no excuse.

There are litter bins within yards of the railings as well as dedicated crab line disposal points attached to the railings in the immediate vicinity.

Hopefully, the thoughts in this letter might just get through to some of the ignorant individuals responsible for this behaviour.
