I WRITE in support of the letter from Gary Gartland in June 10 edition of Globe.
I am currently shielding, so have been taking my exercise early, usually walking along the beach between West Kirby and Hoylake or along the Wirral Way.
I have frequently come home from my solo walk in a distressed state, because I have been accosted, threatened or simply harassed by dogs.
I am also a homeowner and taxpayer, yet I feel that my simple requirements are being over-ruled by dogowners who think that any area is good for their dogs to run amok in and cannot control their dogs.
I feel sure that the kennel club guidance for dog owners says that a dog should be able to be called back with two or three commands.
Would we ever have seen this happen? Owners call the dog’s name numerous times and are still ignored.
I agree with Mr Gartland that I should have a dog-free area to take my exercise in.
Families should have a place where they can sit for a picnic or play with the children, without being harassed by dogs or finding themselves treading in the fouling.
Since the lockdown, this has become more of a problem. Can we have local dog-areas please, and plenty of them.
They could be marked on local tourist maps, have parking areas and be clearly signed as ‘dog-free’.
They could include areas of hill, coast and countryside, like the dog-owners currently have for their use.
Jan Bowen, West Kirby
