IN response to J I (Hoylake)'s letter in last week's Globe ...

He suggests (and I assume it is a white male writing, who does not experience prejudicial attitudes from his skin colour every day of his breathing life) "Taking the knee” is simply a case of jumping on the bandwagon like a bunch of sheep.

How dare he?

J I my friend ... I think you are missing the point.

The killing of George Floyd, is that is what you refer to as ‘the terrible incident in the USA’ ... or was it the killing of Ahmaud Arbery? or Breonna Taylor? or Willie McCoy? or Rayshard Brooks?... I could go on.

Perhaps if J I from Hoylake DID experience daily hatred and prejudice he would realise that now is the time for real change and taking to the streets may seem preferable to the letter writing and petitioning which many campaigners for equality have been doing for so many decades, indeed centuries.

And perhaps, sadly, many of the protestors believe that the risk to their own lives is preferable to the continued oppression that they are enduring.

Please, take your knee off our neck!
