WHAT is wrong with people and where did the alleged famed British sangfroid and capacity for calm disappear to?

Things may, hopefully, have changed by the time this gets published, but at the moment we're witnessing mindless, selfish panic buying.

There isn't a war on around the UK to my knowledge; no bombing or submarines sinking supply ships.

It's almost certain that there are and will be ample supplies for all, given normal purchasing patterns.

However, there's a substantial ignorant percentage of the population hoovering up commodities the moment they are on the shelves.

No thought whatsoever for those who have neither the resources financial and physical nor the storage capacity to stockpile.

Nor even, it would appear, a comprehension that queuing for long periods and lingering unnecessarily in overcrowded shops may substantially increase the chances of infection.

I always like to think that my fellow citizens have some brain function at their disposal.

It would be good if more used it.
