IT IS sad that you have to report on the abusive text messages sent to some local councillors.
The media has a responsibility in not giving a platform to individuals whose abusive sectarian comments do nothing to promote a calm and balanced society whilst possibility giving fuel to extremists.
Your Opinion Page is continually publishing alarming letters containing the vitriolic tirades from the spectrum of the hard right to the Marxist left, which apart from being politically extreme (and I doubt ever making the national media), have no relevance at all to "local issues" which you espouse to give precedence.
It is my hope that the page will soon revert to news of the first cuckoo in spring and other local issues.
