MY 91-year-old father waited fourteen hours on a trolley in accident and emergency at Arrowe Park hospital for a bed.

He was fortunate, being at the front of the corridor queue.

Those in corridors three and four probably had even longer to wait.

Diagnosis, of a possible lung infection, took place in a small coffee room.

Staff were unfailingly attentive, kind, polite and helpful and professionally managed a human wave of pain and distress requiring attention.

This surely shows ten years of failure of the government to investment in the health service resulting in a lack of the necessary staff, beds and space for our NHS to function.

Amidst much jubilation about the recent Conservative election win, what appears to have been forgotten is that this situation has been created by several Tory administrations.
