WE are having a problem with a handful of people trying to get the council to start spraying and raking the beach near our houses again.

I walk on the beach every day with my dogs and our toddler and all the people I meet who use the beach are opposed to any raking and spraying starting up again.

I know they are lobbying anyone who will listen and claiming to represent everyone who lives near the beach.

They don't.

My neighbours feel the same way I do, and so do the beach users I meet.

It's the people who drive past and see it greening who are trying to fight the natural environment with weedkiller.

As it was, we had embryonic sand dunes forming, which would make the beach less muddy.

They've been removed by the action this summer but will come back over time.

Under the terms of the authority’s agreement with Natural England, the council is reviewing what it does next.

There are no instructions from Natural England to continuously treat the beach with weedkiller, and no plans to do so.

To do so would actually be breaking the terms of the council’s agreement with Natural England.

Lots of us want to keep the beach weedkiller free and let the dunes form.
