IT was good to read about the award Hoylake Station has received for best kept station.

We would also like to add our appreciation for the work Friends of Hoylake and Meols in Bloom is doing.

We have also been active in growing plants to enhance the community - plants to eat!

We have planters with herbs, vegetables and fruit in or around local stations, on Market Street and in allotments on Carr Lane and Proctor Road, where we also have a mini orchard.

Fruit trees have been planted in Meols Park.

Vegetables and fruit grow in one or two local church gardens, too, and many other spots.

We aim to encourage people to eat healthily and enjoy free fresh food.

As a small and friendly group we always welcome new members who would like to do some open-air volunteering and learn new skills.

We can be contacted through our website and Facebook or by coming to Melrose Hall in Hoylake on Wednesday mornings at 10am for coffee and cake.
