IT appears not one week seems to go by without yet more controversial tactics from Wirral Council.

Not content with its controversial dog banning proposals, having previously backed down from charging people to park on the coastal drives (knowing full well the outcry that caused), they now turn to another easy means of extracting more money from council tax payers: charging 30p to use what few public toilets are left in the borough.

Their short-sightedness is astounding.

By contrast, our council taxes have been squandered year upon year on all manner of pointless vanity exercises and consultations, and even now they STILL can't repair the hundreds of broken street lights which have been repeatedly logged for the last three years (despite yet another non-story from Cllr Whittingham tediously repeating what he already said four times previously since 2017 - with almost zero evidence of any improvements anywhere the last year alone), coming up with the same lame excuses time and time again, whilst yet more and more lights are going out all over Wallasey and Birkenhead day after day, to add to this ever growing backlog.

Yet somehow they always manage to find (and waste) resources to cut down or hack to the bare knuckles trees which don't even pose any genuine risk - in the dubious name of health and safety.

But when it comes to the safety of our streets they are perfectly happy to do nothing wherever lights have been neglected for years at a time.

I have contacted them - as well as councillors and MPs - about these never ending issues so many times now that I am close to the end of my tether with them.

Do they ever have any common sense or intelligence at all?

You really do wonder sometimes.
